JN Petit Technical High School was founded in September 1888 by Late Mr. Nusserwanji Maneckji Petit in loving memory of his son, Late Jamshedji Nusserwanji Petit, who passed away in 1888 at the young age of 32. The school was originally established at its own premises in Lalbaug, Bombay, and was managed by The N. M. Petit Charity Fund.

The institution was founded with the noble intention of supporting orphans of the Zoroastrian faith, ensuring their welfare, education, and overall development.

In 1948, as student strength increased, the school was shifted to its present campus in Pune. Subsequently, in 1962, in response to growing demand, the school opened its doors to students of all castes, creeds, and religions as day scholars. Hostel facilities continue to be provided exclusively for Parsee students.

The school is located in one of the prominent localities of Pune on a spacious campus. The three-storeyed heritage building houses well-ventilated classrooms, science laboratories, workshops, and common lounges, offering a conducive learning environment.

Today, the school has approximately 1,500 students, including 45 Parsee boarders. These boarders pay nominal or no fees, with their expenses supported through donations from philanthropic institutions and individuals.

JN Petit Technical High School is recognised as a Technical School by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, and offers education from Pre-Primary to SSC (Std. X). The school follows the State Board of Secondary Education syllabus for grades VII to X.

Technical subjects such as Fitting, Welding, Plumbing, Carpentry, Basic Electricity, Engineering Drawing, and Computer Studies are taught at the Std. IX and Std. X levels, ensuring practical skill development alongside academics.

The school also places strong emphasis on co-curricular activities, guided by trained and dedicated staff. Students benefit from extensive sports facilities, including multiple playgrounds and professional coaching in Football, Cricket, Basketball, Athletics and Mallkhamb. The school encourages students by giving exposure to indoor games like Chess and Table tennis etc.
