The School was founded by Late Mr. Nusserwanji Maneckji Petit in September 1888 to perpetuate the loving memory of his son, Late Jamshedji Nusserwanji Petit who died in 1888 at the young age of 32. The School was established in their own premises at Lalbaug, Bombay and managed by The N. M. Petit Charity Fund. It was started with the intention of helping orphans of Zoroastrian faith and looking after their welfare and education.
It was shifted to the present campus in 1948, when the strength of boys went up. Subsequently, in 1962, due to a growing demand for admission to the School, the doors of the School were opened to students from all castes, creed and religions as Day-Scholars. The School provides hostel facilities to Parsee students only.
The School is located in one of the exclusive localities of Pune on a spacious site. The School building is a three storeyed beautiful heritage complex with spacious classrooms, science laboratories, workshops and lounge.
Today, the School has approximately 1500 students including 45 Parsee boarders.
All these boarders pay very nominal fees or no fees at all.
The Trust is able to meet their expenses from Donations received from philanthropic institutions and individuals.
The School is recognized as a Technical School by the Department of Technical Education, Maharashtra State. It provides education from Pre-primary classes to SSC (Std. X).
The School follows the Syllabi prescribed by the State Board of Secondary Education.
The Technical subjects viz. Fitting, Welding, Plumbing, Carpentry, Basic Electricity, Engineering Drawing and Computer, etc. are taught to students for Std. IX and Std. X.
The School provides a number of co-curricular activities under the guidance and supervision of trained staff.
The School has a number of play fields and facilities for professional coaching in Football, Cricket, Basketball and Athletics. The School has an Indoor Gymnasium where training is provided in various fields like Gymnastic, Karate, Yoga, etc.
